アメリカに住む離婚した一人娘を、北京で一人暮らしの父が訪ねてくる。同じ民族文化を持ちながらも、大きな世代文化の違いからか、父娘の心の距離は大きい。父は一人公園でイランの高齢女性に出会い、言葉が不便ながらも、世代文化を共有する。そして娘との心の隔たりには、家族の長年に渡るわだかまりがあった。在米中国人を描いた画期的映画 “The Joy Luck Club” と同じ監督。様々な文化の絡み合いが繰り広げるドラマには、日常性があるだけに、同じ境遇の多くの人達の共感を呼ぶに違いない。

Rizwan Khan, an Indian and Muslim man with Asperger’s syndrome moves to San Francisco and meets a vivacious single mother who is a Hindu. They form a special bond, in spite of their different religions, and fall in love. They have happy days until the tragedy of 911 conspire to tear them apart. Rizwan decides to take a journey across America to see the President and tell him the important message.

アスペルガー症候群のあるイスラム教徒のハーンは、アメリカに移住し,ヒンドー教徒の女性と結婚する。しかし911の事件で幸せだった結婚生活が一変する。「私はテロリストではない」との一言を伝える為に、一人で米国大統領に会うための旅に出る。彼の一途な思いに、周囲の人達が目覚めてゆく感動物語。このインド映画は、イスラム諸国でも上映されて感動されたとのこと。イスラム教徒には、アスペルガー症候群というオブラートのお陰で、抵抗少なく自分のあるべき姿を映すのに役立ち、非イスラム教徒には、先入観が作り出す誤ったイメージを訂正するのに大いに役立つ。何れにせよ、宗教を超えて,予期せぬことに立ち向かう人間の勇気と素晴らしさに、心が大いに揺さぶられる映画である。

学校のスポーツ競技としてアメリカで人気のあるアメリカン・フットボールの選手とコーチの物語。アメリカにおいてまだ白人と黒人の差別が厳しかった時代、ある高校のフットボールのコーチにDenzel Washingtonが演じるコーチが派遣されてきた。彼は人種の壁を乗り越えた強いチームを作ろうと思考錯誤する。高校生の選手同士の葛藤、選手と家族や友たちとの葛藤，コーチ同士の葛藤、タイタン・チームと他のチームとの葛藤、学校と地域との葛藤と様々な苦境を乗り越えて、タイタン・チームの選手達が素晴らしい現実を築く感動的物語。

日本明治初期、近代武器の使用を教えるためにアメリカから来た大佐が日本のサムライ魂に引かれてゆく。過去の戦争で自分が失った誇りや人間としての尊厳をサムライ精神に見出した彼は、彼自身が教えた近代武器に刀で自ら対抗し、正に異文化の壁を乗り越えた実践者となった。Tom Cruiseがその実践者を見事にこなしているし、渡辺謙をはじめ日本人俳優の好演技もハリウッドの注目を浴びた話題作。何よりも原作者を始めアメリカの製作者達の深い武士道探求に脱帽する。

あのシンデレラ物語が、ミージカルで楽しめれるだけでなく、出演の人種が色々である。黒人のシンデレラに東洋人の王子様。所詮ファンタジーの世界なら、徹底的にファンタジー化させて、楽しもうとする心意気が素晴らしい。歌唱力も演技力も一流どころを揃えたデズニーの映画。この映画の中では、子どもと共に異文化の垣根を楽しく乗り越えれる。(上記Youtueにて全編掲載。）

A lonely girl, who lost her mother, moves to a new town for her new school, meet a Black boy at her school. They connect each other through music and dance. The interracial couple go over the cultural barriers and they are united to create their art expression.

ポップミュージックが取り持つ、主人公が白人の女性と黒人の男性の青春ドラマ。米国でも異民族カップルが増えたとはいえ、異民族間の理解を深める必要性は、益々高まるばかり。異文化の融合には音楽や踊りが大いなる貢献をしているのは事実だが、大きなステージやイベントのみならず、このドラマのように日常的な出会いにおいても、その効果を知るのは嬉しいことだ。

With few resources and virtually no clue about winter sports, they enlist the help of ex-champion American slider.

雪の降らないジャマイカの国から、ボブスレーチームを結成してオリンピックに参戦した選手達の物語。しかも、1988年カルガリー冬季オリンピックにおける実話を基に映画化された話は、ユーモアと感動で溢れている。雪の変わりに南国の砂丘の上で練習をする選手達のアイデアは、正に異文化の閉鎖性を打ち破る痛快感で、感動そのものである。

多民族社会ロスアンジェルスの日常を描いた映画だが、異質文化の隣り合う緊張感と先入観からの不安が、連鎖反応を起こす事実をリアルに描いている。決して楽しい映画ではないが、異文化理解の重要性をしっかりと教えてくれる。2006年度のアカデミー作品賞を受賞した作品。

In My Country

In 1996, the South African government established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate abuses of human rights under apartheid. These hearings would serve as a forum for those accused of murder and torture to be confronted by victims and, by admitting their guilt, be granted amnesty under Ubuntu, the native custom of forgiveness. Many journalists were invited to cover the sessions, and a Black-American male journalist and a white South African female journalist met during these historical sessions.

南アフリカでアパルトヘイト政策が撤廃された後、その被害を調査する｢真実和解委員会｣が設立し、その活動を世界に報道するために、世界中からのジャーナリストが迎えられた。そして米国黒人男性ジャーナリストと、南ア白人女性ジャーナリストの出会いが待っていた。ジャーナリストとしての2人の葛藤と、お互いに引かれてゆく心の葛藤。人種差別の歴史事実に、それを乗り越えようとするロマンスが味付けられた映画。
