詩のような英文は大変に短く、幼児用に見せる絵本ではあるが、種を撒いて花を咲かせるやり方が、巻末で丁寧に解説されている。紙質もイラストも、自然が大好きな人達によって制作されているようで、見るだけでも楽しい。３人の異なる人種の子どもが一緒に花を咲かせるのだが、子ども達にその気持ちを起こさせる目的の絵本。多くの絵本がアジアで印刷されているが、この絵本は米国で印刷もしている。

女性の絵本作家とイラストレイターが作り上げた、素晴らしい絵本。赤ちゃんの柔らかでふっくらした足と手に注目したのは、さすが女性の視点ともいえるかも知れない。様々なバックグランドの赤ちゃんが登場する演出からも、髪の毛のちがいや肌のちがいから判断出来る民族的なちがいと、赤ちゃんとしての動作の共通した愛らしさを見事に描いたイラストからも、思わず赤ちゃんの世界に引っ張り込まれる。そしてきちんと、大事なメッセージで終わらせている。短い言葉とイラストがぴったりと意気投合して、絵本の醍醐味が味わえる。男性絵本作家達に、お父さんバージョンを、是非作ってもらいたい。

Yes, Noのゲームをしようと誘われて、ページ毎に質問が出てくる。その答えが右に描かれ, Yes,Please! 又はNo, Thank You! のイラストと共に返ってくる。色々な外見の子ども達が描かれていて、子ども達と共にこのゲームに引き込まれてゆく。片言の英語を喋り始めた子どもに、親が繰り返し教えるこの２つの言葉は何時の時代でも大事で、声を大きくして言う練習にもなる絵本。児童向け英語会話教材には、このような絵本が大活躍するはずである。

副題は3 Love Storiesとなっているが、冒頭で孫達に奉げると記されている通り、3人の赤ちゃんとの楽しいスキンシップの話。太文字の英語で書かれた詩のような文は楽しい虹色の色彩で、それに合った明るい色のイラストが、赤ちゃんの気持ちを表している。読みながらほのぼのとしたスキンシップの世界に、思わず誘い込まれてしまう素敵な絵本。
