On the left page; “You can’t have my bike!”, on the right page; “But maybe……….”, on the page flipped up from the right page; “I ‘ll let you take it for a ride!”  Within these 3 pages present one situation how to share. Learning to share is one of the harder social rules for little one to follow, but with this sweet book, it will be a little easier and more fun.

話が達者となり自己主張を始めた頃の幼児に、正にうってつけの絵本である。「私の人形、あなたには貸さない。」と大きな文字で左のページにあり、右にはその時のイメージを表すイラストがあり、そのページ下に左ページよりは小さな文字で「でも多分、、、、」と書かれている。その右ページを上に上げるとその裏には大きな文字で「この人形と一緒に遊べれるよ」とあり、あたらに現われたイラストは笑顔で仲良く遊ぶ同じ子が出てくる。「ボクの三輪車だから乗っては駄目」「でも一緒になら乗っても良いよ｣といった具合に各状況が解り易く描かれている。様々な人種の子ども達がShareをする様子には、大人でも楽しくさせられる。

Just as American seekers might say ” Peek-A-Boo”,  in Thailand they say “Juy-Ay” when they look for somebody in hiding. A Tai father is looking for his toddler daughter who hides in various places in her surrounding envelopments.  Rhyming text are including sound expressions of Tai language which are familiar for Tai children through Tai nature and Tai culture.

「タイのかくれんぼ」と副題のついたこの絵本は、娘と父親の表情が見逃せない。明るい色彩で切り絵のようなイラストだが、生き生きとした人間の表情と同時に、さりげなく描かれたタイの自然と文化が伝わってくる。ページを開ける楽しみに、きっと取り付かれるだろう。絵本の醍醐味がある。英語は簡単な文章の繰り返しだが、色々な擬音もある。

This is counting book of family, from one member to 10 members, as showing the diversity of different family size. The lovely interactive book shows how a family can be big or small and comprised of people of a range of genders and races.

数遊びの絵本ではあるが、どのページもONEがキーワードになっている。１人住いの人から順番に１０人の大家族を紹介しているので、人種的な多様性以上に家族の多様性を主として描いている。３０年以上もキャリアがある絵本作家と、独特のイラストを描くスペイン住いのイラストレーターのコンビで、大変ユニークな家族の絵本が誕生した。様々な家族の人達の表情から、家族の暖かさとありがたさが見事に伝わってくる。

副題に A book of love for babyとあるように、赤ちゃんへの愛情溢れるリズミカルな言葉とイラストでいっぱいである。主役の赤ちゃんが代わる度に、赤ちゃんの生活にとって大事な単語が現われ一章を構成している。６人の赤ちゃんは外見の多様性をそれぞれに現してはいるが、赤ちゃんの共通性には変わりがない。新しく親となった人達を、兄や姉となった子ども達を、そして赤ちゃんが恋しくなった総べての人達をきっと満足させてくれるに違いない絵本である。

小さな子ども達が食べ物作りごっこを楽しんでいるのを、赤ちゃんが見ている。一人一人異なる子が異なる発想で“ごっこ”遊びをしているのだが、本物の食べ物は皆で一緒に仲良く食べる。小さな子どもの異なる発想から、しっかり学んでいる赤ちゃんの様子が、しっかり柔らかく描かれている。異文化理解の赤ちゃん版とも呼べそうな、素晴らしい作品である。
