The photo book of world children’s life and their face expression published by The Global Fund for Children, based on the wisdom word of Fred Rogers “Neighbors are people who care about and help each other. Sometimes they live in the same real neighborhood, but they can also be neighbors even if they live far away”.  >>> Fred Rogers was a well-known host of American TV show for children ” Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” during 1968 ~ 2001.

「近所とは、隣に移り住む人達かもしれないし、遠くに距離が離れているかもしれない、、、、でも皆同じに生きている」とのテーマで、文化の違いと子ども達に共通する表情を集めた写真集。異なる生活の様子と、子ども達の共通する生き生きとした笑顔が、読者の心を結びつけてくれる。What we wearの写真集と同様に、The Global Fund for childrenの制作した意欲的な作品であり、1968年から30年以上も米国の子どもTV番組のホストをした今は亡きFred Rogers［ミスター・ロジャー］の名言から生まれた写真集でもある。

世界各地の子ども達が、祝いの服や祭りの衣装を披露してくれる写真集。伝統的な装飾やフェイスペイント等、どの子の表情も大変に明るい。各写真には国名が記され、世界地図も記載されている。更に色々な衣装を調べるように、子ども達にアドバイスを忘れていない。The Global Fund for Children と言う機関の制作した、将来の地球市民への作品の一つ。

At the beginning there is an explanation that “Affirmation is words that you think or say, and believe to be true”. During visiting at amusement park with a friend, several situations are picked up as examples to solve the problem, to change negative way to positive way, and to communicate better.

サブタイトルのAffirmationについてWords that you think or say, and believe to be trueとの解説が冒頭にある。絵本の内容は、遊園地に友達と行った状況で、様々な思いを例にあげて、問題の解決を導いている。ネガティブな思いをポジティブな言葉や行動に変えることにより、より良い結果や幸福な人生が開けることを、幼い子どもの頃から学んで欲しいとの、制作者達の願いが込められた絵本。明るく解り易いイラストも、その効果を上げていて楽しめれる。

レナの母親は絵描きでもあり、レナに赤、黄色、黒、白を混ぜると、混ぜ具合によって色々な茶色が出来ることを教えてくれた。そして２人で外に出て、色々な人に会う度に、その人の肌の色がどんな茶色か名前をつけてゆく。知人や友人を一人一人紹介しているページでは、大きな顔を描いて肌色だけでなくカルチャーも見事に表している。多民族の豊かさを、茶色の肌の色から語っている、明るい色彩のユニークな絵本である。

抽象的な概念の平和について、五感を通して得られた具体的な言葉や表現を、子ども達から回答してもらった。各ページの質問の下には、回答した子どもの名前と年齢が記されている。抽象的な言葉から回答した子どもなりの認識が、微笑ましくもあるし、大いに教えられる。平和教育教材としても、大いに役立つ絵本である。巻末には世界の約２００言語による平和の言葉がリストになっている。この絵本は、世界貧困対策に取り組むCAREへの支援活動も行っている。

Celebrating unscheduled time with a lot of awakeners around us to explore beauties, values and ourselves.  The author comments ” we are human being, not human doing.”  is inspired in this comfortable book to enjoy our time nothing to do.

.何もしないことが、いかに現代社会には必要であるか、、、、、予定がビッシリと組まれ、常に時間に追われ、何かしていないと退屈でどうにもしようが無い現代の子ども達に、何もしないことの素晴らしさを語っている。何もしないことは、想像力を豊かにし、自分の周りの気ずかなかった自然の動きに目覚めさせ、自分の存在を確認させてくれる。人間はHuman being であり、Human doing ではないと気ずいた作者らしい。イラストレーターも、大自然の成長に見られる８つのパターンを参考に各ページの構図を描いている。実に多くの気ず気が盛り込まれた、大変心地よい絵本である。

A mixed-race girl celebrates the rich inclusiveness of her life. She observes very well her black Mom and her white Dad, and even herself between them. >>>The author writes this book for her mixed-race grandchildren.

黒人の母親と白人の父親の娘である主人公が、両親をしっかりと観察している。二人の違いを楽しく発見しながら、その中間に位置する自分の存在を「これでちょうど良い」と肯定していて実に楽しい。この絵本は、白人の作者であるM.W.D.が、混血の自分の孫に贈る為に書いた絵本であり、祖母の暖かい思いが随所に溢れている。２０年前の作品とは思えぬほど、今日でも生き生きとしている内容である。

While you are sleeping ~A lift-the-flap Book of Time Around the World

Start the page of a child reading before bed in Alaska, then lift the flap on the opposite page to see a girl in Nigeria getting dressed to start her day.  As lifting the flap show another child on the other side of the world, in the same moment in time.  Children from nine different countries present their moment in the different time zones of our planet.

副題にある通り、この絵本は世界時間を解り易く説明した絵本である。アラスカの子どもが寝る前に母親から読んでもらっている絵本から始まり、ページの右側にはナイジェリアの村の絵が丸いカバーに描かれ、そのカバーを開けるとナイジェリアの時間とナイジェリアの少女を紹介した絵が描かれている。次のページにはその少女の生活が描かれ、右側のカバーの下には日本の少年が紹介されている。ページを開ける度に好奇心が膨らみ、最後には世界時間の説明がある楽しい絵本。
