When Emilia finds a walnut one morning, Grandpa tells her the story behind it: of his journey across the ocean to a new home, with only one small bag and a walnut in his pocket. Emilia recognizes the big tree in her yeard was planned by Grandpa a long time ago. She wants to know how to cultivate her own seed, and Grandpa teaches Emilia step by step. But as her little nut grows, Grandpa begins to slow down – until one sad day, Emilia has to say goodbye. Emilia’s sapling looks as droopy as she feels…but she knows just what to do. Emilia moves the sapling from the pot to the yard and plans it near by Grandpa’s tree and Emilia’s mother’s tree.

Emiliaがある朝クルミの実を見つけた時、お祖父さんがクルミの話をしてくれた。お祖父さんが海を越えて新しい土地に小さなカバン一つでやって来た時、彼のポケットにクルミを一つ入れてきた。Emiliaは庭にある大きなクルミの木は、お祖父さんが昔植えた木だと知った。Emiliaは、彼女がもらったクルミを育てたかった。お祖父さんは一つ一つ丁寧に教えてくれたが、クルミが成長するのに反して、お祖父さんはか弱くなってゆき、とうとうEmiliaがお祖父さんに別れを告げる日になった。お祖父さんを亡くした彼女はすっかり元気を失い、クルミの苗も元気を失った。しかし、Emiliaは、クルミの苗を鉢から庭に移すことに気ずいて、庭にあるお祖父さんの植えた木とEmiliaの母親が植えた木のそばに、彼女の苗を植えた。
