母親が再婚した為に、２人の父親がいる少女が主人公。血統の繋がっている父親をDadと呼び、義理の父親をPopと呼んで、２人を比較している。２人の違いと共通点を、子どもの目で観察し、自分の気持ちを表現している。２人の父親の個性あるカルチャーが、少女により豊かな体験をさせてくれる。英文は短く簡単明瞭で、ほとんどのページが一文のみ。

１９２９年にアメリカの経済が大暴落した時、ニューヨークの子ども達は食べる物も食べれなかった。その話をアフリカの村の学校で、米国人の教師から聞いた少女の心は落ち着かなかった。（少女の表現では、心が座ることが出来なかった。）アメリカの子ども達が食べるものを買えるように、少女は村人達に呼びかけてお金を集めた。１９３１年にアフリカのカメルーンからニューヨーク市に＄３．７７の寄付金が届いた実際にあった話を絵本化している。当時でも小額の寄付金ではあったが、カメルーンの村人達にとっては大金であった。価値観の異なる二つの世界を結んだ少女の心は、読者の心も温めてくれる。＞＞＞SHIコレクションにあるMara Rockliff の作品。

異文化比較を、見事に具体化した絵本である。オーストラリアの少年とモロッコの少年の生活環境を比較しているが、両開きに製本されていて、正に２冊の本が１冊となり鏡のように対比出来る。初めと巻末の解説は、左から右へ読む英語と右から左へ読むアラビア語で書かれてはいるが、内容となると文字はなく様々な素材を生かしたコラージュ（貼り絵）を写真に撮ったイメージが右左対となっている。異なる生活文化比較だけでなく両方の繋がりを、きっと子ども達は見つけ出すに違いない。世界の様々な生活文化比較をシリーズにして欲しいと、次作品に期待をしたくなる。

父親と息子の遊ぶ様子が、熊の親子に例えられて描かれている。父親との関係を扱った絵本が少なく、２人の生き生きとした表情のイラストは、父親のカルチャーの存在感を認識する。大きな動きの絵に合わせて、文字も躍ったりサイズを変えたりしている。柔らかく暖かく包まれるような絵本のみならず、父親と子どもの溢れる絵本も、子ども達の生活環境には必要である。

Xavier’s mom gets remarried and now he gets a new stepbrother, Chris. Without Xavier’s choice, Xavier needs to share his room with Chis, then it looks like Chris is also trying to steal Xavier’s mom by being her favorite kid. Xavier struggles how to accept his new brother.

母親が、子ども連れの男性と再婚し、その男の子が自分の部屋に同居することになった。複雑な少年の気持ちを、20の詩で表現している。兄弟とは認めたくない、母親がその子にとられる、自分ばかり良い子ぶっている、、、、と、不満ばかりこみ上げていた少年の気持ちが、段々とひらいてゆく。イラストからは異民族間家庭と判断できるが、少年の気持ちにはそのこだわりは見られず、むしろ兄弟として受け入れる葛藤が描かれている。目の描き方が大変印象的なイラストではあるが、少年の思いを表現する効果は大いに現れている。

一週間のスケジュールがぎっしり詰まっている少女アーネスティンには、忙しい両親に代わって、ナニーがアーネスティンのスケジュールを管理していた。放課後月曜日は粘土彫刻、火曜日は水中バレー、水曜日は編み物、、、、週末も土曜日は空手、日曜日はヨガ。隣の男の子と遊ぶ暇もない。ナニーでさえ、時としてスケジュールを混乱するほど。そしてある日、アーネスティンは、革命的なことを思いついた。カラフルで表情豊かなイラストは、見る楽しさも充分に盛り込んでいる。
