Along the Tapajós

Cauã and Inaê are a brother and sister who live in a small community along the Tapajós River in Brazil. Here, the homes are on stilts and everyone travels around by boat―even to school! When the rainy season comes, they must leave their village and relocate to higher ground for a while. But after moving this year, Cauã and Inaê realize they’ve left behind something important: their pet tortoise, Titi! Unlike turtles, tortoises can’t swim, and Cauã and Inaê are really worried. Cauã (カワ) とInaê (イナエ) は、ブラジルのTapajós River (タパホ川) の川辺にある小さな集落に住む兄妹である。ここでは、家は川の中に立つ脚柱の上に建てられ、ボートで移動した。学校へもボートで通った！雨季になると、人々は川の家を離れて雨季の間、高台にに住まいを移した。しかし高台に移動した後、二人の兄妹は、大切なものを川の家に忘れてきたことに気ずいた。それはペットの陸ガメのTitiである。亀とは言え、陸ガメは泳げないので、二人は大変心配になった。そこで、夜二人で抜け出して、ペットを救いに川を渡る冒険に挑んだ。果たして、Titiを助けれるだろうか？＞＞＞巻末に、詳しいタパホ川の解説と、作者の冒険談がある。

Ari Arranges Everything

The Village Blacksmith

The neighborhood blacksmith is quiet and unassuming, tucked in his smithy under the chestnut tree.  Sturdy and generous, but with sadness to bear, he toils through the day, passing on the tools of his trade, and come evening takes a well – deserved rest.  Longhellow’s timeless poem about a humble craftsman is enhanced by thoughtful, contemporary art in G. Pacho Nacho
