Carrieは、母親へのクリスマスプレゼントを買う為に、雪かきをしてお金を稼ごうとした。しかし、何を買うのか解らなかった。近所の家を尋ねる度に、それそれがお得意のスープをご馳走してくれた。みんな異なる土地から来ているのでスープもそれぞれの伝統が生きていて、Carrieはレシピを教えてもらい、それを集めた。そして、母親への素晴らしいプレゼントを思いついた。＞＞＞巻末には、多彩なる文化圏から来たCarrieの近所の人達から集めた簡単なレシピが、記載されている。英文は1ページ~半ページ分の長さなので、英文講読練習にも使える。
