Accidentally he is chased as a kidnapper and experiences un-expecting events including the Cannes Film Festival, and finally he can arrive in the coast of Mediterranean Sea.

イギリスのテレビ・シリーズで、喜劇俳優として有名になったRowan Atkinsonの映画。イギリス人のビーム氏が、フランスのカンヌへの旅行がクジで当たり、仏語が解らないまま一人南フランスを目指すが途中誘拐犯に間違えられる。最後には、カンヌの国際映画祭に紛れ込んでしまいながらもハッピーエンドで終わるが、ビーム氏は何よりも地中海の海に憧れていた。言葉少ない演技である分、顔の表情やボディーラングエッジを豊かに使って、様々な人達とコミュニケーションしていく滑稽さが楽しい。仏語が解らなくても、ビーム氏と一緒にフランス国内旅行をした気分にしてくれる。

言葉のハンディーがありながら、日本人ラーメン店主とアメリカから来たばかりの若い金髪女性とが異文化の垣根を乗り越えてゆく過程を、暖かく描いている。西田敏行演じる自分の味を守る頑固な店主と、ラーメン作りを学ぼうと諦めないアメリカ人。お互いの性格が良く出ていながら、肝心の言葉が通じない歯がゆさがあるが、それ故に真剣にお互いが引き合ってゆく展開が、上手に表現されている東京が舞台の映画。

ニューヨーク公演中に逃亡したモスクワ・サーカス団のロシア人サクソフォーン演奏者が、米国での生活を築く葛藤の様子を、笑いのペーソスを充分に取り入れ描いている。複合民族社会のニューヨークには同じような境遇の人が大勢いて、ともすると深刻で暗くなりがちなテーマに、皆が夫々に明るく前向きに取り組み「自由」を実現している様子が、笑いながらもじっくりと伝わってくる映画。シカゴ生まれの米国人Robin Williamsが、そんなロシア人を熱演している。

米国に住むRayは、白人系母親とパキスタン人の父親がいる。彼が白人系女性にプロポーズをしてその返事を待っている間に、異民族結婚の両親がトラブル。父親は同じ思いを息子にさせまいと、パキスタン人の父親を持つ女性とのお見合いを強引にRayにすすめる。一見異民族間の融合が簡単に思われる米国だが、日常の中でアイデンティティーの葛藤は、さまざまなドラマを生み出している。深刻になりがちな問題を、コミカルに明るく演出した映画である。

雪の降らないジャマイカの国から、ボブスレーチームを結成してオリンピックに参戦した選手達の物語。しかも、1988年カルガリー冬季オリンピックにおける実話を基に映画化された話は、ユーモアと感動で溢れている。雪の変わりに南国の砂丘の上で練習をする選手達のアイデアは、正に異文化の閉鎖性を打ち破る痛快感で、感動そのものである。
