Alvinaには、心から愛している2人の祖母がいた。一人はトリニダード(カリブ海の島）出身で、もう一人は英国出身。Alvinaの両親が休暇で留守にする間、2人の祖母が彼女の世話をする為にやってきた。しかし、この2人は食べるものも、好きな音楽や話も、総てが異なっていたので、しばしばいざこざが起きた。そこでAlvinaは一日おきに交代で順番に世話をすることを提案したら、それが上手くいった。お陰で二人の祖母は、お互いに心を開くようになった。

この絵本では、火星からやって来た従兄弟を描いている。突然やって来た従兄弟のIRVは、火星人の為か、風変わりな言動が見られたが、迷惑ながらもテディーは自分の部屋をこの従兄弟とシェアする。学校に来たこの従兄弟は、教室の総べてのものを蒸発させるので、皆はテディーの友達になりたがった。そしてテディーは、火星から来た従兄弟が好きになった、、、と言った具合に話は進むが、異なるカルチャーを受けいれる子ども達の健康的な好奇心は、相手が誰であっても変わらないようだ。簡素化された少ない色合いの墨絵のようなイラストは、読み手のイメージを膨らませる余白をのこしているようでもある。
