Charlie gets a homework to explore the people and place his community. He and his mother take a walk to find out. Each time Charlie meets a person, he describes him/her on his notebook with his words and drawings. And his assignment helps Charlie to understand the diversity of people and occupations in his neighborhood.

Neighborhood（近所）は、一つしかないのだけれども、、、と語りながら、その近所にある店をページごとに示し｢でも、そのお店の中には色々な商品（店ごとに異なる）がある」と、幼い子にも解りやすく近所から国、世界への繋がりを教えている。もちろん最後のページには、読んでいる大人も、微笑がわいてくる。英語は短く簡単明瞭、イラストは地味な色彩だが暖かい。幼子と、大いに語り合える絵本。

It’s a game book as following Maze with a finger. Each opened pages shows a different scene of the farm, and there are totally 11 scenes with start and finish marks for each.  As enjoying a farm adventure with the diversity of children, related vocabularies and questions are appeared on each page as well. The answers are included at the end.

迷路を指で通りながら、StartからFinishまでで導くゲーム本ではあるが、背景は11 の異なる農場の様子が描かれている。見開きで一つの背景の迷路には、農場独特の施設の単語が記載され、人、動物、道具などの位置の質問がされている。楽しみながら農場の文化に親しみがわくし、描かれている人物も多人種の子ども達。コンピュータ利用のイラストには、デザイナーやアートディレクターも参加して制作されている。アイドルの犬も各迷路に潜んでいて、巻末には各迷路の通過図と隠れている犬の位置を示す回答がある。

On the first Saturday of June, everyone on Barkley Plaza is exciting with having a Block Party. Except a girl who breaks her friendship with other 2 girls, and she decides to spend all day in her bed. As hearing louder and joyful noise from out side, it’s getting harder for the silly girl to stay by herself in the bed. It’s a big marvelous annual event of the diversity community.

多種多様な人々が住むコミュ二ティーでのブロックパーティーの日は、６月の第一土曜日であった。いよいよバークレープラザにその日がやって来て、みんなが浮き浮きと準備を始めた。しかし、３人仲良し娘の１人ローラは、１人すねていてベットから一日中出ないつもりであった。外では食べ物が並び、音楽やダンスが始まり、子ども達の笑い声も大きくなった。コミュニティーの暖かさと３人の友情が重なってゆく、ほのぼのとした話の絵本。

アナベルの住む小さな寒い町は、雪の白さとスス色の世界に包まれていた。アナベルは様々な色の毛糸が入った小さな箱を見つけ、自分と愛犬のセーターを編んだ。それでも毛糸が余り、、、終らない毛糸のお陰で次々と町に色彩が施され暖かさが広がり、この町は世界中に知れわたった。そして、、、ほのぼのとしたおとぎ話である。イラストの効果も素晴らしい。４歳から８歳向けとはなっているが、年齢問わずに楽しめれる絵本である。

Introducing people who start to work at 10 pm and awake through the night while children sleep. Street sweeper, window dresser, Radio DJ, security guard, newspaper printer, bridge painter, zookeeper…..etc. totally 14 different night jobs.  At 7 in the morning, all of them come to have a coffee in the café open 24hous.
