Before World War 2, Avik who is a mix blood boy between white and Inuit leaves his Arctic home with a British mapmaker to Canada as his first experience expanding life outside of his world. In Montreal Avik meets Albertine who is a mix blood girl between white and Native person, and their lives link each other even through the War and distance.

白人系のイヌイットの少年と白人系北米原住民の混血少女との淡いそして、強い何かがひきつけあう2人。第二次世界大戦の勃発で、2人の運命は荒れ狂う戦火に飲まれながらも強くひきつけられてゆく。　時代背景がなせる業か、血統のカルチャーがなせる業か、成人して白人社会に生きようとする女性ではあるが、、、、、。北極圏に近いイヌイットの村に、一人静かに暮らす老人の許へ一人の若い女性が訪ねて来る。自分でも拭い去ることが出来ない血統のカルチャーへの執着心は、周囲の偏見によることも多分に影響しているようだ。

明るく楽しく展開する、異民族間のラブロマンス物語。父親の仕事を手伝う為に中国に行った米国人青年が、上海近郊の村の工場へ視察に行った時、美しい娘に出会った。そしてその娘だけが、村で唯一英語が通じる人であった。オーソドックスなストーリーラインではあるが、現代の両国の若者を描いている点では、Foreign Studentと比較するのも興味深い。比較することによって、時代が反映しているカルチャーと地域のカルチャーの違いが鮮明になる。そして異文化を乗り越えて変わらない愛の力とは、、、、、人間の歴史の原点がそこにあるのかもしれない。

1955年に、スカラシップをもらって米国バージニアに留学したパリの青年の物語。フットボールとアメリカンフットボールの違いからカルチャーショックを受けたり、同じ白人でもフランス人の青年には米国黒人の音楽に好奇心はあっても偏見が全くなかったり。異民族カップルが許されなかった時代にも関わらす、一目惚れした黒人女性に率直に思いを表現しようとするフランス青年はいじらしくもある。異文化理解の教材としても、ストーリーラインに議論の要点となりそうな描写が随所にあるので、大いに活用できる作品。

初老ドイツ人夫婦の、死後にお互いの思いが重なり合うというスピリチュアルな映画である。但しこの映画のエッセンスには、子ども達との血統のカルチャー、ドイツの田舎町と日本の大都会TOKYOの地域カルチャー、そして今日的なグローバルカルチャーとしてのテクノロジーに囲まれた生活と創作舞踊の普遍的な精神が織り成している当たり前の日常でもある。幻想的でファンタジックな描写の合間に、現実がはまり込んでいる。こういうラブロマンスもありとする、製作者達の意欲が感じられる。

Juliette, magazine editor, arrives in Cairo Airport to spend her three weeks vacation with her husband Mark who is a Canadian diplomat. But Mark is very occupied with his urgent responsibilities in a refugee camp, and instead of himself Mark sends one of his Egyptian friends to receive Juliette at the Airport. In order to ensure his wife’s safety until Mark arrives, he asks his longtime friend Tareq to be her guide through the city. With the beauty of Cairo and fascinated exotic culture, Juliette wishes to share her excitement with Mark, but his duty steals Juliette’ time again and again.

鑑賞後、文化の香り高きカイロの街と大人の愛が重なって蘇る作品。雑誌編集者の女性が、外交官の夫を訪ねて一人カイロに到着する。難民キャンプの現場から離れられない夫は、エジプト男性の友人に妻の出迎えを頼む。初めてやって来た異国の地は、何もかもがエキゾチックで不安と好奇心に心がすくむが、それを受け入れてくれる夫はなかなか妻に合いに来れない。代わりに空港で出迎えてくれたエジプト男性に頼らざるを得なくなるのだが、、、カイロの美しさとエジプトの歴史ある文化に浸りながら、二人の心の引き合いが見事に描かれている。
