Based on a true story. In 1943, ten-year-old Diana Hopkins lived in the White House with her father, Harry Hopkins, the chief advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. But 1943 was also a time of war, WWII, and Diana wanted to do her part on the home front. When the president talk about a Victory Garden on the White House Lawn to grow own food, Diana gladly helped to do. Victory Garden was started in the White House and grew out across the country.

実話を基にした絵本。1943年に10歳だったデアナ・ホプキンスは父親と一緒にホワイト・ハウスに住んでいた。父親がフランクリン・ルーズベルト大統領の主補佐官であったのだ。その年は第二次世界大戦の最中でもあり、デアナも何か人助けがしたかった。大統領が勝利の庭をホワイトハウスの芝生を利用して作り、そこで野菜を育てる話をした時、デアナは喜んでその手伝いをした。ホワイト・ハウスから始まった勝利の庭(野菜栽培)は、全国に広まっていった。
