Similar story with “Stone Soup“, but sets in 1919 ~1922 Mexico.  When a group of hungry soldiers ride into San Miguel, the people in the town hide their foods. But the captain asks for a cactus thorn to make some cactus soup. Eventually the people give him ingredient one by one for adding into the soup.  A glossary of Spanish words is provided.

Stone Soupと同じ内容の絵本であるが、作者曰く、1910年~1922年のメキシコ革命に、時代設定をしたそうだ。兵士達が町へやってくると、町の人達は貧しくて、兵士達にふるまう食べ物はないと、言った。そこで隊長が、サボテンのとげでスープを作って、町の人達にもふるまうことにした。好奇心にかられた人達が、一つ二つとスープに入れる材料を提供しだす。巻末にはスペイン語の解説があり、イラストも楽しく描かれている。
