A little boy Francisco ties to get mangos from the mango grove all by himself, but some problem happened forces him to return to his home. Each time his returning, his father shares a different proverb to encourage Francisco to continue trying. 3軒の家の先にある公園の端にあるマンゴの木に、マンゴを取りに行く話しなのだが、「ことわざ」が英語とスペイン語で頻繁に出てくる。父親から頼まれた小さな男の子は、一人でマンゴ採りに挑戦することになるのだが、色々な困難に出会う。その度に「ことわざ」で、皆から勇気ずけられる。「ことわざ」はどの民族にもある先人からの知恵でもあるのだが、その表現方法や使い方に、民族色が出ていて大変ユニークな本に仕上がっている。切り絵のようなイラストも、楽しさを増してくれる。
