Jesse, American young boy living in Seattle, gets unexpected visitors from Tibet who are searching for the reincarnated leader of their Buddhism. Jesse and his parents hardly believe Tibetan monks visit and they hesitate to accept the request for Jesse’s participating to their reincarnation ceremony in Tibet. However eventually and bravely, the American family open their minds to involve in the mysterious world.

チベット仏教僧の霊魂再来の儀式をつかさどる子供が、世界から3人選ばれて、チベットでそのための準備をするのだが、その一人にシアトルに住んでいた少年が選ばれた。仏教との縁もゆかりもない家庭に育った彼が、絵本に描かれた釈迦の生涯への興味を深めてゆき、白人の彼の両親も仏教に頑なだった心を開いてゆく。芸術性高いチベットの仏教文化を観賞出来るだけでなく、霊魂再来の慈悲と安らぎさえも伝わってくる。絵本の中の釈迦役を演じたKeanu Reevesは、正に適役である。
