作者自身、大勢の孫のいる祖母であるが、「この本を私の祖父に捧げます」と冒頭に書かれている。４０にも及ぶお爺さんの使い道は、実に楽しく、大いに納得出来、しかも今風のお爺さんと孫の関係が尊敬と信頼と愛情をもって述べられている。英語は単語や短い文であり解り易く、様々な人種やスタイルのお爺さんと孫達のイラストは、万国共通のお爺さん像が浮かび上がり、見ているだけでも楽しい絵本である。
