作者もイラストレーターも共に子どもをもつ母親であるが、親の子どもへの愛情をそっくり包み込んだ絵本である。親の観察眼から溢れる簡単明瞭な言葉と、大胆でも暖か味が溢れているイラストが、実に良くマッチしていて、絵本の醍醐味を満喫できる。描かれている親子も異なる人種を取り上げ、一日の時間を追うと共に子どもの年齢差をつけてた演出も、見事に功をなしている。
