Inspired by a historical photograph of an Asian man wearing German military uniform at the Normandy battle sight and the historical fact of cancelation of 1940 Tokyo Olympic.  Incredible relation between a Koran man and a Japanese man who both are good marathon runners, and the two are in rivalry in 1940s South Korea. But the war breaks out and the destinies of the both lead rough lives until the Normandy battle in 1944.

２０世紀の世界を吹き荒れた戦争が背景とはなっているが、見ごたえのある長編ヒューマン物語。韓国人のKang監督は、ノルマンディー上陸作戦時に撮られたドイツ軍の軍服を着たアジア男性の写真を、近年米国で公開された公文資料の中に見つけ、１９４０年の戦争で実行できなかった幻の東京オリンピックの実話と結びつけた。リアルな戦闘シーンは、狂気の渦に巻き込まれる人々の対極にある人間の崇高さに輝きをもたせる為、監督自らの演出である。憎しみを超えて輝く人の心の崇高さが、深い感動をもたらしてくれる。Kang監督を信頼しているアジア人俳優達の演技も素晴らしい。
