多民族社会ロスアンジェルスの日常を描いた映画だが、異質文化の隣り合う緊張感と先入観からの不安が、連鎖反応を起こす事実をリアルに描いている。決して楽しい映画ではないが、異文化理解の重要性をしっかりと教えてくれる。2006年度のアカデミー作品賞を受賞した作品。
