Daniel’s son died in Kouch, Japan, and he travels from San Francisco to Kouch for searching his son’s arts left while his son worked as an English teacher at public school. Japan is unfavorite place for Daniel, and he closes his mind toward everything. As getting longer of his stay, Daniel finds the real story of his son’s life, and Daniel’s closed mind opens slowly and surely. この映画の監督兼脚本家は、日本国政府のプログラムで高知県に派遣され中学で一年間英語を教えた経験者で、この映画は彼の初の長編作品でもある。印象深い日本の美、高知の土地柄、人種を超えた愛、芸術の普遍性、親子の絆と、少々欲張りに色々なテーマを盛り込んではいるが、それだけに切り口を変えたら様々な視点からの異文化理解教材ともなりえる。太平洋戦争で父を亡くしたサンフランシスコに住む黒人男性が、家を飛び出し日本に行ってしまった一人息子も事故でなくした。息子が描いて日本に残した絵を探しにやって来た父親は、日本に対する閉ざした心を段々に開いてゆく。詩のように美しく流れるような、映画でもある。
