作者の子ども時代の体験を基にした物語。Emmaは、貧しい季節移動労働者の娘で、本屋で売っている本物の本が欲しかった。家族と共に農園で働いていたEmmaだが、８歳になったとき新しい学校へ行くことになった。そして彼女は、学校のクラスルームに本物の本が沢山並んでいることを発見して驚いた。
