Why Ella is alone in a hotel? Because her mother is a famous actress and too busy with her celebrity life. Ella is missing her mom in the deep of her mind.

ホテル住まいの６歳のEllaの日常を紹介しているが、有名女優の母親が為に一緒にいられない寂しさが随所に現われ、多彩なる人種が織り成す都会の風景の中で一人暮らす少女Ella。特殊な背景と状況から、この絵本はむしろ大人向けに制作されたようだ。使われる単語や表現は、都会の大人のカルチャーが多分に影響している。‘ローカルホテルに暮らす小さな女の子のおませな独り言’と言った副題も付いてはいるが、児童心理をビジュアル化して大人達に警鐘を継げているようにも読み取れる。著者もイラストレーターもニューヨークの多民族社会であるブルックリンに住んでいる。
